SOUTH TEXAS ALAMO REGION
Jim Prock - President

Come join us for this year’s ASSIST statewide convention in San Antonio and enjoy the hospitality that only our great city can offer. We have a full program arranged for your convention this year.

Top Gun

photoShooting competition will be a two gun event: sidearm and shotgun. You must bring duty rig etc, just like the day you qualify, and 50 rounds FACTORY ammo, plus 9 rounds of FACTORY 00 Buck in 12 gauge. Bring your own pump shotgun or we will have some loaners available.

Awards will be on basis of shotgun only, pistol only, and shotgun-pistol combined. Shooters may elect one or the other or all. This will be a "walking course" (no running, no jumping to the ground) and will involve multiple targets in sequence. No more than 25 - 30 yards distance walking, point blank to approx. 20 yards engagement distance. Shooters doing all three must bring additional ammo for combo shoot: 50 more rounds handgun ammo, 9 more 00 buck.

Transportation from the hotel will be provided and depart 8:00 a.m. sharp as the range is some distance from the hotel.

The 2010 Annual ASSIST Golf Tournament

photoWill be held at the SilverHorn Golf Club of Texas, in San Antonio, this year. SilverHorn was recently rated as one of the best courses in Texas by the Dallas Morning News and according to Golf Digest’s “Places to Play” category it received 3 ½ stars. The course is nestled in the beautiful north central side of San Antonio and just 6 miles from the Omni Hotel. The course is 6333 yards from the Gold tees and offers many challenges with its tree lined fairways and lush greens. Range balls and a “Replay Card” will be provided to each player along with a box lunch and beverages. The “Replay Card” allows each participant to come back and play again for free which is a tremendous value for our outing this year.

Start time for our scramble will be at 8 am, so get there early and warm up and enjoy this great golf venue. Please contact Pete LaBonte at (210) 681-8221 or plabonte@smithprotective.com if you have any additional questions. We are planning a longest drive and closest to the pin competitions and you will have an exciting opportunity to win a truck or car at one of the par three locations. This should be another exciting event for the ASSIST members and their guests. The course is located at 1100 West Bitters Road, San Antonio, Texas 78216. Phone is (210) 545-5300 and they require soft spikes and proper attire. Maps will be available at registration check-in.

The Hospitality Suite this year is located on the top floor of the hotel, 20th floor, ‘The Colonnade Ball Room’ with a wonderful view of downtown San Antonio and the surrounding hill country.

The Presidents Gala will feature a live band entertainment, The Texas Chili Peppers band from San Antonio playing a combination of country, rock and contemporary music for your dancing pleasure.

The Texas Chili PeppersThe Texas Chili Peppers are a versatile blend of musical talent, influences, and backgrounds. These diversities enable the band to play a wide variety of musical styles ranging from Country to Tejano and all the Rock 'n Roll in between. Having a family foundation, the Texas Chili Peppers feature brothers Oscar and Alan Gonzalez teaming up with their father, Al Gonzalez.

Juan Gonzalez and Paul Villareal add years of professional musical experience. Together, the band is a unique musical journey that strives to always please the audience first…

The Spouses Program for the 2010 ASSIST Convention will be a day trip to Fredericksburg, Texas on Friday, October 1, 2010. Spouses will be transported from the hotel on Friday morning at 9am to this beautiful hill country German town. Everyone will then be free to enjoy the rest of the morning shopping in the shops and galleries along and just off Main Street. Lunch will be provided at noon at one of the local restaurants and then more shopping, wine tasting and exploring the local history and culture of this hill country community. Fredericksburg is well known for its unique shops and interesting sites as well as being the center of the Texas hill country wine industry. The Nimitz World War II museum is also located on Main Street and is well worth the time if you anyone is interested. Everyone will be back to our hotel in time to prepare for the President’s Gala. We are planning a wonderful day and we are sure the economy of Fredericksburg will be improved by our visit!
