LEAPS CHAPTER AUSTIN, TEXAS

The Central Texas LEAPS chapter met Oct. 28 during the local ASSIST meeting. We are still putting the finishing touches on the formation of our chapter but know we are on the right track and just need to stay focused on seeing it through. There are a lot of great people supporting this and we appreciate their efforts and applaud their dedication and time to make this successful.

Dallas PD LEAPS officer Keith Allen attended the meeting to discuss what the Dallas Chapter was doing, have done (both good and bad) and some things we can implement. Items discussed and being worked on are:

• Anyone wanting to be a member of LEAPS must have a current Texas Security License

• Recruitment of new members

• Benefits of membership, such as access to suspicious activity reports from other members and law enforcement - Charlie has posted a proposed form on the website.

• APD Officer Borton is working on the development of our first Workshop

• Combining meetings with ASSIST quarterly.

• How to keep the momentum going and sharing success stories with law enforcement.

We also had a great meeting with APD Commander Romoser, Lt Wright and APD LEAPS Liaison Shelly Borton. They are all on board with our organization and excited to see what is next.
